Alameda Education Foundation has the perfect art activity for the Lunar New Year! AEF’s Art Changes artist, Bill Jeng, grew up celebrating New Year by participating as a Lion Dancer. It’s natural that many of Bill’s paintings are of young Lion Dancers celebrating their heritage in this athletically demanding dance. After you watch Bill’s short video, make your own mask inspired by the Lion Dance costumes. You’ll need oil pastels and watercolor for this project.
AEF’s girls basketball season came to a thrilling conclusion on January 15, 2026 with two exciting championship games! The Lincoln Lions managed to maintain their undefeated season and secure a win for both the DI and DII teams. And the playoffs were equally as exciting leading up to the final game. In the DII playoffs, #3 ranked ACLC/Nea took the win over #2 ranked Wood to guarantee their spot in the championship game. The DI playoffs saw #2 ranked Academy of Alameda take on #3 ranked Wood in a close game with fierce competition on both sides where the Academy of Alameda ultimately came out on top and secured their place in the final match-up against the undefeated Lincoln Lions.

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your generous support of our classroom library at Ruby Bridges Elementary School. Thanks to your grant, my third-grade students are now enjoying a welcoming, well-stocked, and engaging library space that has quickly become the heart of our classroom.
The new library rug and comfortable seating have transformed our reading area into a cozy, inviting environment where students are excited to gather, read independently, and share books with one another.

Many thanks to Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) and their customers who donated to AEF’s Power Up for Learning program through their monthly energy bills. These funds will go to:
Twenty Alameda non-profits received grants from the Rotary Club of Alameda at the Rotary meeting on Tuesday, December 9. The Rotary Club of Alameda awarded $24,000 to local non-profits as part of their matching grant program. These grants come from generous donations made by Rotarians to their favorite Alameda charities and are matched by the Alameda Rotary Endowment Foundation. AEF received a matching grant for our Teacher Mini Grants program.
Thank you Alameda Rotarians!
